No More Neckties

The award-winning author of Finally Out: Letting Go of Living Straight,  flings open the doors on the hard stuff in this candid and inspiring new memoir.

In No More Neckties: A Memoir in Essays, Dr. Olson shares the story of his life and its hard lessons.

A practicing psychiatrist and a proud husband and grandfather, Dr. Olson writes about intensely personal events such as tragedy and loss; love and heartbreak; infidelity and betrayal; fear of aging; and never feeling good enough. Nearly everyone, whether they’re gay, straight, bisexual, or something else, can relate to his experiences.

Dr. Olson said, “These are topics we’re not supposed to talk about. But not sharing them cuts us off from others and leads us to feel isolated and disconnected. So often I hear ‘I feel like I’m the only one who’s ever felt this way.’ But I know that the only reason they feel so alone is because they’ve been too afraid to talk about the hard stuff. And we all have hard stuff… Knowing that others have felt the same relieves us of our shame and guilt.”

With honesty and empathy, Dr. Loren Olson is ready to talk.
